19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He defended 4 early chances in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
